Bhadohi, Dec 12: The pradhan of a village in Bhadohi has been arrested in connection with the death of a 67-year-old businessman, who died after being hit from behind by a speeding car in a suspected case of targeted attack.
Police said the victim, Kamal Kant of Dhaskari village, had recently filed a complaint against the pradhan and his associates alleging corruption. Acting on his application, the District Magistrate had ordered an inquiry and suspended the pradhan’s financial powers, leading to rising tensions between the two sides.

Besides the pradhan, Manish Yadav (35), police have also arrested his uncle, Mehilal Yadav (35). Bhadohi Circle Officer Ashok Kumar Mishra said two other accused — Manish’s nephew Sujit Yadav and another uncle, Munnalal Yadav — are absconding, and raids are underway to trace them. An FIR has been registered under charges of murder and criminal conspiracy.
The incident took place on the evening of December 10, when Kamal Kant was returning home after closing his shop. A speeding car hit him from behind and fled. He was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police examined CCTV footage and recorded statements of locals regarding the victim’s strained relationship with the pradhan. The vehicle used in the crime was traced to Sujit, officers said.
Investigators also found that in October the victim had lodged a separate complaint accusing the pradhan and his relatives of assaulting him. He is survived by his wife and children.
