Mamata expresses shock over Messi event chaos in Kolkata

Kolkata, Dec 13: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday expressed being ‘deeply disturbed and shocked’ over the mismanagement at Salt Lake Stadium during football star Lionel Messi’s visit.

Chaos broke out at the Yubha Bharati Krirangan when fans, unable to get a clear view of Messi during the first leg of his GOAT India Tour, hurled bottles and chairs, damaging stadium property.

Banerjee extended her apologies to Messi and sports lovers, stating she was on her way to the stadium to attend the event. She also announced the formation of a probe committee to investigate the incident, assign responsibility, and suggest preventive measures. The committee will be led by retired Justice Ashim Kumar Ray, with the chief secretary and the additional chief secretary of the home and hill affairs department as members.

“Once again, I extend my heartfelt apologies to all sports lovers,” she wrote on X.
