Mangalore, Feb 21: The city police on Monday February 20 arrested a youth wanted in theft cases in the city.
The arrested has been identified as 20-year-old Sadat Ali, son of Abubakker Siddiq, Farangipet, Pudu village of Bantwal. Ali was found suspiciously loitering outside the compound of the city’s sub-jail in Kodialbail on Monday.
Ali confessed to committing a theft at midnight on August 31, 2011 at a house in Bejai. He had committed the theft along with his accomplice, a certain Afeez who is working in Gulf now. The items stolen included nearly 22 sovereigns of jewellery, mobile handsets, and expensive wrist watches. The complainant stated that the stolen items were worth about Rs 1.28 lac.
Ali also confessed to stealing a Honda Activa two-wheeler that was parked in a commercial complex at Navabharat Circle in November 2011. The police have recovered registration papers of the two-wheeler from Ali, besides Blackberry mobile handsets altogether worth Rs 35,000.
The arrest was carried out under the direction of city police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, deputy police commissioners Mutturaya and Dharmayya, led by city East police inspector C Kiran, and ASI Sukumaran K. Policemen Harish Padavinangady, Subramanya K N, Yashwant Konchady, and Prakash Naik were involved in this operation.
The police sources informed that IMEI data of stolen mobile handsets found in the possession of Ali helped get a breakthrough in this case.
