Agartala, Dec 21: Tripura chief minister Manik Saha on Saturday highlighted a sharp decline in the state’s overall crime rates, asserting that the BJP government will not compromise on law and order. The remarks came after a high-level law and order review meeting at Pragna Bhawan with senior police officials.
Saha, who also holds the home portfolio, stressed the pivotal role of police stations in governance, saying, “The service delivery system begins at the police station level.” He reaffirmed that political interference in policing will not be tolerated and that officers will be assessed based on performance rather than political affiliations.

“We have 90 police stations and nine women police stations. Earlier, police officers were often identified by political colour. Such practices must end,” Saha said, adding that he conducts fortnightly reviews with SPs and DMs based on reports and feedback.
The Chief Minister instructed officers-in-charge (OCs) to monitor daily FIR registrations, ensure proper drafting, maintain timely filing of charge sheets, provide counselling where needed, and promote physical fitness among police personnel.
Tripura has witnessed notable reductions in crime categories till November 2025 compared to 2023:
• Crimes against humans fell from 1,385 to 753 cases.
• Property-related crimes dropped from 412 to 275 cases.
• Crimes against women decreased from 791 to 627 cases.
• Overall crime cases declined from 5,002 to 3,386 cases.
Saha also reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy on drug-related offenses under the NDPS Act and emphasized vigilance regarding Bangladesh-related issues, communal elements, and touts.
“If everyone works together, we can build a new India and a new Tripura,” he said, directing police officers to act firmly, independently, and strictly in accordance with the law. Director General of Police Anurag, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
