New Delhi, Dec 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the national-level programme marking ‘Veer Baal Diwas’ at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Thursday and address the gathering on the occasion.

The programme will also be attended by recipients of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP). On the occasion, President Droupadi Murmu will confer the prestigious awards on 20 children from 18 States and Union Territories for their outstanding achievements in fields such as bravery, sports and social service.

Veer Baal Diwas is observed to honour the bravery and supreme sacrifice of the Sahibzades — Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji, the young sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Their martyrdom at a tender age remains one of the most poignant chapters in India’s history, symbolising unwavering courage in the face of tyranny.

Prime Minister Modi will also interact with children and youth during the event, underscoring the importance of courage, values and service to the nation.

To mark the occasion, the government is organising participative programmes across the country to educate citizens about the extraordinary valour of the Sahibzades and to commemorate the courage of young heroes in India’s history. These activities include storytelling sessions, recitations, poster-making and essay-writing competitions, to be conducted in schools, anganwadi centres, child care institutions and other educational platforms.

The annual observance of Veer Baal Diwas was first announced by Prime Minister Modi in January 2022, during the Prakash Purab celebrations of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
