Acclaimed artist, Karnataka Rajyotsava awardee Devadas Shetty passes away at 79

Mumbai, Dec 28: Internationally renowned painter and writer Devadas Shetty (79) passed away on Saturday, December 27, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in the world of visual arts.

Hailing from Hadinjeguttu, Moodbidri, Shetty was celebrated for his extraordinary creativity and dedication to art. Known for his unique style and profound artistic expression, he was honoured with the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award in 2022, recognising his outstanding contributions both nationally and internationally.

Over a career spanning decade, Shetty’s artworks have been exhibited across the globe, including in Japan, Germany, Egypt, the United States, the United Kingdom, Dubai, and the West Indies. His talent was also recognised in Kolkata, where he received the prestigious ‘Shantiniketan’ award. In addition, he was conferred honours by the Bharatiya Kala Samaj and the Alvas Varna Virasat, alongside numerous other national accolades.

Reflecting on his artistic journey, Shetty once remarked, “Art is not merely my profession; it is my breath, my expression, and my dialogue with the world.” His works, celebrated for their depth and innovation, earned him admiration across continents.

Devadas Shetty is survived by his wife, Sumithra Devadas Shetty, two daughters, and one son, along with an extended family and a wide circle of friends and admirers who continue to cherish his contribution to the arts.
