Akola, Jan 4: A shocking murder has come to light in Maharashtra’s Akola city, where a dispute between two friends escalated into a fatal assault allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred late Thursday night in the Mothi Umri area of the city.

According to police, the deceased has been identified as Amol Digambar Pawar. His close friend, Nitesh Arun Janzal, has been arrested by Civil Lines police in connection with the murder.

Police said Amol and Nitesh had been living together for the past three years in Sanjay Nagar, Mothi Umri. Local residents have claimed that the two shared an intimate relationship, but police clarified that such claims are currently based only on local sources and no conclusions can be drawn at this stage.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the two were friends and frequently argued over alcohol consumption. On Thursday night as well, a dispute broke out between them after drinking. The argument escalated into a physical fight, during which Nitesh allegedly attacked Amol.

Police said that on the night of the incident, Nitesh had brought food from outside. As the quarrel intensified, Nitesh, in a fit of rage, allegedly struck Amol repeatedly on the head and face with a bamboo stick, causing his death on the spot.

On Friday morning, Nitesh reportedly came out of the house shouting that Amol was lying motionless and had died. Neighbours gathered after hearing the commotion and alerted the police. Civil Lines police rushed to the spot and began their investigation.

Police officials said that Amol’s body bore multiple serious injuries. During questioning, the accused has reportedly confessed to the crime. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report, police said.

Speculation regarding the nature of the relationship between the two continues, but police stated that they currently have no concrete evidence in this regard. Further investigation is underway, and officials said the truth would emerge during the course of the probe.
