Sullia: Woman, child drown in pond; police probe two related cases

Sullia, Jan 4: Tragedy struck Puttur taluk when a 34-year-old woman and her three-year-old child drowned in a pond, according to a complaint lodged by her father, Rukmayya Gowda (66).

The incident was reported to Bellare police station on Sunday, January 4, and registered under FIR No. 01/2026, Section 103 BNS-2023.

In a related complaint, Ratnavathi (55), also of Puttur taluk, expressed suspicion surrounding her daughter’s death. This was registered at the same police station under UDR No. 01/2026, Section 194(3)(i)(iv) BNSS-2023.

Police have recorded both cases and launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the deaths and whether foul play was involved. Authorities are appealing to the public to provide any information that could assist the inquiry.
