Mangaluru police suspend head constable over woman harassment, duty negligence

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jan 7: In a strict departmental action, head constable Santosh CJ posted at Ullal police station was suspended by Mangaluru police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy following allegations of harassment against a woman and unauthorized absenteeism from duty.

The issue dates back to 2023 when a complaint was initially filed at Kavoor police station, stating that Santosh had a prior acquaintance with the woman. After a brief period when the accused apologized and the complaint was withdrawn, Santosh allegedly resumed harassing the woman, prompting her to report the matter to higher authorities on December 17.

Subsequently, Santosh failed to report for duty at the station or inform senior officials starting December 18, compounding the severity of the matter. Considering the seriousness of the allegations and the need for departmental inquiry, the police department took immediate action to suspend him from service, pending further investigation.

Officials confirmed that the suspension aims to uphold departmental discipline and ensure a fair probe into the harassment allegations.
