Mangaluru, Jan 7: The Annual Athletic Meet – 2026 of Srinivas University and Srinivas Group of Colleges was successfully organized on January 7 at the Mangala Stadium, Mangaluru. The event was conducted with great enthusiasm, discipline, and a true spirit of sportsmanship, witnessing active participation from students of various institutions under Srinivas University.

The programme commenced with a formal inaugural ceremony. A colourful and disciplined march past by contingents from all institutions under Srinivas University marked the beginning of the event, symbolizing unity, coordination, and sportsmanship among the students.

Dr C A A Raghavendra Rao, chancellor, Srinivas University and president, A Shama Rao Foundation, presided over the function. In his presidential address, he emphasized the importance of sports in shaping character, discipline, and leadership qualities among students. He encouraged all students to actively participate in institutional as well as external competitions and strive for excellence through achievements in sports alongside academics.

The event was graced by Dr Surekha N Hosker, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), Mangaluru, as the chief guest. In her address, she highlighted the vital role of physical fitness in maintaining mental well-being. She stated that regular physical activities help reduce stress and prevent various health issues. She also emphasized that sports are not merely about winning or losing, but about giving one’s best performance and respecting opponents.

The function was further dignified by the presence of esteemed guests of honour, including Dr A Srinivas Rao, pro-chancellor, Srinivas University and vice president, A Shama Rao Foundation; A Vijayalakshmi R Rao, trustee member, board of governors, Srinivas University; Prof Er A Mitra S Rao, trustee member, board of governors, Srinivas University, Dr K Satyanarayana Reddy, vice-chancellor, Srinivas University, Dr Anil Kumar, registrar, Srinivas University, Dr Srinivas Mayya D, registrar (evaluation), Srinivas University; Dr Ajay Kumar, registrar (development), and Prof Supriya Adiga, Physical Director, along with all deans of Srinivas University and principals of Srinivas Group of Colleges.

Dr Subramanya Bhat, dean, Institute of Computer Sciences & Information Sciences, welcomed the gathering. The programme was compered by Prof Elson, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Ramakrishna Shabharaya, principal, Institute of Pharmacy.

Various athletic events, including track and field competitions, were conducted efficiently throughout the day under the guidance of the Department of Physical Education. Students showcased remarkable sportsmanship, competitive spirit, teamwork, and discipline. The events were well coordinated, ensuring fairness and safety for all participants.

The Annual Athletic Meet – 2026 concluded successfully, leaving behind a strong message of unity, perseverance, and the importance of physical fitness. The event truly reflected Srinivas University’s commitment to holistic education through academic excellence and sports development.
