West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose defies death threat, vows to serve people

Kolkata, Jan 9: West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Friday asserted that no threat could deter him from working for the people of the state, a day after he received a death threat via email.

Describing the threat as an attempt to silence his voice for the common people of Bengal, Bose said he would continue his work fearlessly. “Such threats cannot stop me from working for the people of Bengal. Bengal is my home, and I am a son of this soil. I am not scared to give up my life for this land,” the governor told.

Recalling past incidents, Bose said this was not the first time he had faced a life threat. He referred to an episode during a visit to Murshidabad last year when a person allegedly handed over a live country-made bomb. “My ADC immediately took it away and placed it in a tub of water. It was a close shave,” he said.

The 75-year-old governor claimed that the latest threat could be linked to his outspoken stand on issues related to the hardships faced by people in the state. He further stated that he was willing to walk the streets of Kolkata without security, asserting that the people of Bengal would protect him.

Bose received the death threat through an email on Thursday night, in which the sender allegedly threatened to “blast” him. Following the alert, his security was tightened. Police acted swiftly and arrested the accused from the Salt Lake area near Kolkata, officials said.

The governor is currently under Z-plus security cover, with around 60 to 70 central police personnel deployed for his protection.
