New Delhi, Jan 10: Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri has said that the Centre’s long-term energy planning is increasingly translating into real, everyday benefits for citizens, stressing that the true test of policy lies in how seamlessly it supports daily life rather than in announcements alone.
In a post on social media platform X, the minister noted that India’s energy planning is being tested daily in real-world conditions — in homes, on roads and across workplaces — where forecasts meet lived reality.

Highlighting the expansion of piped natural gas (PNG) connections, Puri said around 1.58 crore kitchens across the country are now receiving PNG, eliminating the need for booking LPG refills and marking a shift towards greater convenience and cleaner fuel usage.
“India’s energy systems are built to be ready before pressure peaks. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, planning is measured by how smoothly daily life runs,” he wrote, underscoring the importance of preparedness in a fast-growing economy.
The minister also pointed to the rapid expansion of compressed natural gas (CNG) infrastructure as a key indicator of demand-driven planning. At present, 8,428 CNG stations are operational nationwide, a number that is projected to more than double to 18,336 by 2030. This growth, he said, is enabling wider access to cleaner transportation fuel for motorists across the country.
Another major focus area highlighted by Puri was the national gas pipeline network. He said pipeline length has increased from around 15,000 kilometres in 2014 to 25,429 kilometres currently, with plans to further expand it to 33,475 kilometres by 2030. The expansion aims to strengthen energy connectivity and ensure long-term preparedness.
“Energy systems cannot wait for pressure to appear. They must be ready before demand peaks. India’s energy planning is increasingly defined not by announcements, but by how smoothly daily life runs. Because the true test of planning is not what is promised, but what quietly works,” the minister said in a video shared along with his post.
