Bengaluru woman alleges Rs 36 lac fraud by ex-husband who abandoned family

Bengaluru, Jan 11: A Bengaluru woman has accused her ex-husband of defrauding her of Rs 36 lac after marrying her post-divorce, prompting the Banashankari Police to register an FIR.

The accused, Mohan Raj, a Banashankari resident, had known the woman for 10 years. The couple married in 2022, and their child was born in February 2023. According to the complainant, he abandoned the family last year.

“He convinced me we should build a new house. Trusting him, I mortgaged my gold jewellery and took a loan of Rs 36 lac, which I gave him. After taking the money, he absconded,” the woman said tearfully.

She further alleged intimidation when seeking justice. “When I went to the authorities, I was attacked. Even after visiting the police station four times, I have received no justice. The police warned me that if I lodged another complaint, action would be taken against me,” she added.

The woman had obtained a divorce in 2021 from her first husband. Police are now investigating the complaint.
