Mangaluru, Jan 14: St Aloysius College Teachers’ Cooperative Credit (SACTCC) Society Ltd, Mangaluru, in collaboration with the School of Commerce, Finance and Accountancy, St Aloysius University, is organising its golden jubilee celebrations along with an international conference on “Power of Cooperatives in Sustainable Development” on Friday, January 16 at 9.00 a.m. at Eric Mathias Hall on the university premises.
The conference is being held in hybrid mode and about 714 academicians, students and scholars have registered for the event, including 340 participants in online mode.

The programme will be inaugurated by chief guest Prof Yashavantha Dongre, vice chancellor, Chanakya University, Bengaluru. The event will be presided over by Fr Melwin Joseph Pinto SJ, pro-chancellor and rector, St Aloysius College Institutions. Dr Praveen Martis SJ, vice chancellor and president, SACTCC Society Ltd, Mangaluru, will be present in an honorary capacity.
During the inaugural session, past and present presidents and secretaries of the society will be felicitated for their contribution to its growth from its inception in 1976 to the present.
The international conference will focus on the crucial role played by cooperative institutions in fostering inclusive growth, economic resilience and sustainable development, bringing together academicians, researchers, practitioners and policymakers from various regions. Dr Sudha K, research professor, Institute of Commerce and Management, Srinivas University, Mangaluru, will deliver the keynote address on ‘Cooperatives at the heart of sustainable development’.
Dr Manuel Tauro, dean, School of Commerce, Finance and Accountancy, and secretary, SACTCC Society Ltd, along with Naveen Mascarenhas, convener, are coordinating the event, with Dr Bharathi R and Helma Preethi Rodrigues serving as co-conveners. During the conference, a souvenir comprising a report on the society’s fifty-year journey and articles by members and beneficiaries, compiled by the editorial team headed by Dr Chandra Shekhar Shetty, will be released.
At the valedictory programme in the evening, Dr Mukunda Prabhu, head, department of Hindi, St Aloysius University, will be the chief guest, while Dr Melwin D’Cunha SJ, pro vice chancellor of the university, will preside.
The organisers have extended an open invitation to academicians, professionals, students, representatives of the cooperative sector and the general public to participate in the event.
