President Murmu, PM Modi lead nation in saluting Indian Army on Army Day

New Delhi, Jan 15: President Droupadi Murmu extended warm greetings to the Indian Army on the occasion of Army Day, terming the day a tribute to the courage, dedication and supreme sacrifice of soldiers who serve the nation with unwavering resolve.

Army Day is observed every year on January 15 to commemorate the day in 1949 when General K M Cariappa took over as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army.

In her message, the President said the Indian Army has always upheld the highest traditions of professionalism, commitment and bravery, whether in defending the nation’s borders or in saving lives during natural calamities. She also lauded the force for its gallant performance and notable success during Operation Sindoor.

“Army Day commemorates the courage, dedication and supreme sacrifice of our soldiers who stand steadfast in the service of the nation. The Indian Army remains at the core of India’s national security,” President Murmu said. She expressed confidence that the Army would continue to play a vital role in nation-building and contribute to economic progress and inclusive development.

Paying tribute to the soldiers, she reiterated the nation’s enduring gratitude and conveyed her best wishes to all ranks for continued strength and success in the discharge of their duties.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid homage to the Army, saluting its courage and resolute commitment. In a post on X, he said the soldiers stand as a symbol of selfless service, safeguarding the nation even under the most challenging conditions. He also remembered with deep respect those who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended greetings to Army personnel and their families, stating that the nation salutes their indomitable courage, supreme sacrifice and unwavering commitment to safeguarding India’s sovereignty and integrity. He added that the government remains committed to building a modern, Atmanirbhar and future-ready Army.

Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan praised the Army’s unwavering courage, valour and indomitable spirit, especially highlighting its performance during Operation Sindoor. He said the Indian Army continues to be the cornerstone of the nation’s defence architecture.

Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi also conveyed Army Day greetings to serving personnel, veterans, Veer Matas, Veer Naris, defence civilians and their families. Saluting the supreme sacrifice of Bravehearts, he said the past year demanded sustained vigilance and decisive operational responses, which were clearly demonstrated during Operation Sindoor.
