Moodbidri, Jan 16: A student sustained injuries after two cars collided head-on on Thursday afternoon in Sampige, under Puttige gram panchayat limits, police sources said.

The accident occurred when an Innova traveling from Kinnigoli towards Moodbidri collided with a Swift car coming from Ujire towards Katilu. The injured has been identified as Ashwita, a student from Ujire. Fortunately, other passengers in both vehicles escaped without injuries.

Officials said poor visibility due to thick dust and smoke raised by daily sand transport trucks contributed to the accident. Over 200 truckloads of sand are transported through the area every day, creating hazardous conditions for villagers and commuters.

Residents have urged the authorities to take strict action and regulate sand transport to prevent further accidents.
