Mughalsarai, Jan 16: One person was killed and two others injured after a speeding SUV ran over pedestrians at Padav Chowk in the Mughalsarai police station limits here on Thursday night, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Irshad (25), a resident of Chaurahat. The incident occurred around 11 pm, triggering anger among locals, who vandalised the vehicle before police arrived and brought the situation under control.
The two injured pedestrians, both residents of Varanasi, were later referred to a hospital in their hometown for further treatment.
Police said the SUV, bearing a West Bengal registration number, has been seized. The driver, identified as Harish Yadav of Varanasi, has been taken into custody and further investigation is underway.
