New Delhi, Jan 18: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday arrested Tapan Pramanik, the main accused in a Rs 4 crore investment fraud case in Tripura, from Nadia district in West Bengal. Pramanik, declared a Proclaimed Offender by a Special CBI Court in Tripura on January 16, 2023, was produced before a court in Nadia to seek transit remand for his transfer to Tripura.

The arrest came after detailed field verification, physical surveillance, and analysis of call data records, according to the CBI. Pramanik had been absconding since 2012.

The case, registered by the CBI on October 8, 2013, involves Pramanik, then Director of M.P.S. Agro-Animal Projects Ltd, and others. They were accused of fraudulently collecting Rs 3–4 crore from the public under the pretext of investment, but misappropriating the funds instead.

Following the investigation, the CBI filed the charge-sheet in 2015 and a supplementary charge-sheet in 2019. As Pramanik did not appear for the investigation, the court issued a warrant and later declared him a Proclaimed Offender in 2023. Persistent efforts to trace him over the years finally led to his arrest.

MPA Agro-Animal Projects Ltd, incorporated in 2008 in Santipur, Nadia, operates in agriculture and allied activities, providing services on a contract or fee basis.
