Lucknow, Jan 18: An IndiGo Airlines flight travelling from Delhi to Bagdogra was diverted to Lucknow on Sunday morning after a bomb threat was reported while the aircraft was in the air, officials said.
Air Traffic Control received the alert at around 8.46 am for flight 6E-6650, following which the aircraft was directed to make an emergency landing. The plane touched down safely at Lucknow Airport at about 9.17 am and was immediately shifted to an isolation bay as a precautionary measure.
During initial checks, security agencies found a handwritten note on a tissue paper inside the rear lavatory of the aircraft, bearing the message “Bomb on the plane.” Officials also confirmed that the aircraft was carrying radioactive material in a sealed and authorised package — cancer medication transported with a valid no-objection certificate — in the luggage hold.

Given the seriousness of the threat, a Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) was formed to evaluate the situation. Quick Reaction Teams cordoned off the aircraft, while bomb disposal squads and other security agencies began an extensive search of the plane.
The flight was carrying 222 passengers, including eight infants, along with two pilots and five cabin crew members. All on board were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
The aircraft remains parked in the isolation bay under tight security as checks continue.
In a statement, an IndiGo spokesperson said a security threat was detected on flight 6E-6650 operating from Delhi to Bagdogra on January 18, prompting its diversion to Lucknow. “Following established procedures, we immediately informed the relevant authorities and are fully cooperating with them to conduct all necessary security checks,” the spokesperson said.
The airline added that efforts are being made to minimise inconvenience to passengers by providing refreshments and regular updates, reiterating that the safety and security of passengers, crew and aircraft remain its highest priority.
