Mini tipper hits pedestrian near Kundapur, driver caught after chase

Kundapur, Jan 19: A 52-year-old pedestrian sustained serious injuries after being hit by a mini tipper near Balluru on the Siddapur–Kundapur State Highway on the night of January 17.

The injured has been identified as Rudra Poojary, a resident of the area, who was walking along the roadside when the speeding mini tipper rammed into him, leaving him grievously hurt.

After the collision, the driver, identified as Basil D’Souza, fled the spot without stopping the vehicle. However, alert local residents chased the tipper and successfully intercepted it near the B H Road.

Rudra Poojary was initially rushed to a private hospital in Kundapur and was later shifted to Manipal for advanced treatment.

A case has been registered at the Kundapur Traffic police station, and further investigation is underway.
