Indore, Jan 23: At least nine people have fallen ill after consuming contaminated drinking water in Mhow tehsil of Indore district, Madhya Pradesh, officials said on Friday. The cases were reported on Thursday night in the Patti Bazaar and Chander Marg areas.

Indore Collector Shivam Verma visited Mhow late Thursday, meeting patients receiving treatment at a local hospital and interacting with residents of the affected areas. Nine patients are currently hospitalised, while several others are recuperating at home.

Health department personnel, under the supervision of Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Madhav Hasani, have been on site since Friday morning. A team from Indore Medical College, along with other specialist doctors, has also been deployed to the area to assist with medical care. Mhow MLA Usha Thakur visited the hospital to meet the affected individuals.

Collector Verma directed the health department to ensure proper and effective treatment for all patients and instructed the Mhow Cantonment Board to check water quality and maintain sanitation in the affected areas. “The government is closely monitoring the situation,” he said. “Residents experiencing symptoms will be provided appropriate treatment, with critical patients admitted to hospital.”

No patient is in critical condition at present, and some are expected to be discharged later in the day. This incident follows a recent water contamination outbreak in Bhagirathpura, Indore, which claimed seven lives according to official records, though locals had reported higher casualties. Authorities continue to stress vigilance and improved water quality measures to prevent further incidents.
