Saudi authorities issue strict Ramadan guidelines for Mosques

Riyadh, Jan 23: As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance has reiterated strict rules for mosque operations, with a renewed emphasis on sound discipline, prayer timing, and overall preparedness to ensure a smooth experience for worshippers.

Minister Sheikh Abdullatif Al-Sheikh confirmed that mosques across the Kingdom will be prohibited from using outdoor loudspeakers during prayers throughout Ramadan. The use of external speakers will be allowed only for the Adhan—the call to prayer—and the Iqama, which signals the start of congregational worship. The move aims to maintain calm during prayers and limit noise in surrounding areas.

A circular released by the Ministry outlined detailed instructions for mosque readiness, stressing adherence to official prayer timings according to the Umm Al-Qura calendar. The circular highlighted the importance of calling the Isha prayer at its scheduled time and maintaining the proper interval between Adhan and Iqama for all prayers.

Mosques have been instructed to conduct iftar meals only in designated courtyard areas, manage water donations responsibly, and avoid stockpiling large quantities. Caretakers and maintenance teams are directed to ensure clean, safe, and well-prepared facilities, with women’s prayer areas receiving equal attention.

Officials said these measures aim to provide worshippers with a spiritually enriching, orderly, and comfortable environment during one of the busiest periods in the Islamic calendar while respecting nearby residential communities.
