Udupi, Jan 24: The Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur, witnessed an overwhelming outpouring of faith, gratitude and communal harmony as the week-long Milagres Utsav 2026 culminated with the grand celebration of the annual parish feast. The celebrations were made possible largely through the dedicated leadership and sponsorship of Pirjenth Wilson Fernandes, his wife Leena Fernandes, and the Fernandes Group.
Beginning with Confraternity Sunday on January 18, followed by the meaningful Souharda Koota and Prathibha Puraskar, solemn Vespers, and culminating in the festal day celebrations, Milagres Utsav 2026 evolved beyond a parish event into a festival of society, bringing together people irrespective of caste or religion.
At this magnificent celebration stood Pirjenth Wilson Fernandes and his family, supported by the Fernandes Group, whose selfless service and wholehearted commitment played a pivotal role in shaping every aspect of Milagres Utsav 2026. The Festal Day on Wednesday, January 21, dawned bright and prayerful as Milagres Cathedral joyfully welcomed the main celebrant Dr Henry D’Souza, bishop of Bellary diocese.
Pirjenth, Wilson Fernandes and his family arrived in a colourful procession. They were honourably received at the church entrance by the rector, Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves. The vice president of the Parish Pastoral Council Melwyn Sequeira, along with office bearers and members, were also honoured with decorated candles for their service.
In his homily, Bishop Dr Henry D’Souza reflected on the theme With Mother Mary closer to god and neighbours with service. Offering six guiding principles for a happy family life, he emphasised the importance of placing God first, followed by husband and wife, children, family, extended family and society. His message resonated strongly with the congregation and reinforced the Christian call to build families rooted in faith and service.
Vicar general and rector Msgr Ferdinand Gonsalves expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to the success of Milagres Utsav 2026. He made special mention of Pirjenth Wilson Fernandes and the Fernandes Group, acknowledging their leadership, generosity and tireless efforts. As a mark of appreciation, the bishop honoured Wilson Fernandes and family with a decorated candle.
Fr John Fernandes, vicar of Holy Family Church, Brahmavar, conveyed festive greetings on behalf of the priests of the Kallianpur deanery and expressed joy in participating in the celebrations. The entire liturgy was meticulously organised by assistant parish priest Fr Pradeep Cardoza Unity. The celebrations concluded with the much-awaited 289th Wilfy Nite, marking a finale to Milagres Utsav 2026.
