Karkala, Jan 24: St Lawrence Basilica, Attur–Karkala, reverberated with faith and devotion today as the parish solemnly observed Confraternity Day, highlighting the theme “Universal Brotherhood – Building the Church Community through the Eucharist.”
The solemn Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Fr John Baptist Saldanha, public relations officer of the diocese of Mangalore and parish priest of St Francis Xavier Church, Bejai. In his homily, Fr Saldanha emphasized the Eucharist as the source and summit of Christian life, calling the faithful to grow in unity, service, and universal brotherhood through active participation in the Church community.

The Holy Mass was concelebrated by Fr Alban D’Souza, parish priest of St Lawrence Basilica; Fr Robin Santhumayer, assistant parish priest; Fr Roman, spiritual director; and other priests. Their presence added spiritual depth and pastoral support to the celebration.
As part of the Confraternity Day observance, a solemn Eucharistic procession was held after the Holy Mass. The Blessed Sacrament was reverently carried from the church premises to Doopadakatte Circle, where the faithful bowed in deep gratitude and adoration to the Lord. The procession, marked by prayerful silence and devotional hymns, created an atmosphere of profound reverence and collective faith. Fr J B Saldanha led the adoration, delivered a brief reflection, and imparted the Eucharistic blessing upon the gathered faithful, invoking God’s grace upon the parish and the wider community.
The entire celebration stood as a powerful witness of living faith, where devotion, prayerful walking with the Blessed Sacrament, and soul-stirring hymns beautifully expressed the spirit of unity and Eucharistic love. The Confraternity Day celebration at St Lawrence Basilica truly reflected the call to build a vibrant Church community rooted in the Eucharist and universal brotherhood.
