Puttur, Jan 25: A shocking incident reported from Pade in Ramakunja village under Kadaba police station limits on Saturday evening has taken a dramatic turn, with police now probing a case of alleged filicide linked to domestic discord and a property dispute.
A 17-year-old boy, Moksha, was found dead with a gunshot wound, while his father, Vasanth Poojary (also identified as Vasanth Amin, 50), was found grievously injured with stab wounds at their residence. Initial reports had suggested that the son had attacked his father with a knife and later died by suicide using a firearm. However, subsequent investigation and a complaint filed by the boy’s mother have indicated that the father allegedly shot his son dead and then attempted to take his own life.

According to police sources, Vasanth had purchased agricultural land at Pade in Ramakunja village and was residing in an old house there along with his son. On Saturday evening, he reportedly contacted acquaintances claiming that his son had stabbed him and later shot himself. When locals rushed to the house, they found Vasanth in a pool of blood with serious injuries, while Moksha was lying dead with a gunshot wound.
Vasanth was immediately shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru, where he is currently undergoing treatment under police guard.
Meanwhile, the victim’s mother Jayashree, who had arrived at the spot, lodged a complaint alleging that her husband was responsible for their son’s death. In her complaint, she stated that the Ramakunja property was in her name and that her husband had been pressuring her to transfer it to his name, which the son had opposed. She further alleged that she had been living separately at her parental home in Perla of Kasargod district due to differences with her husband.
Jayashree stated that their son, who had been staying with her, was brought to Ramakunja about a month ago. She also claimed that on the day of the incident, Vasanth had taken the boy to Mangaluru on the pretext of medical treatment, and that the boy had called her expressing fear, saying that if anything happened to him, his father would be responsible.
Based on her complaint, Kadaba police have registered a case against Vasanth Poojary and are investigating the matter from all angles, including the alleged property dispute and prolonged domestic discord.
Additional superintendent of police Anil Kumar S Bhooma Reddy visited the spot and conducted an inspection. Rural circle inspector Nagaraj and Kadaba PSI Jamburaj Mahajan were also present. Police officials stated that the exact sequence of events and motive will be ascertained after a detailed investigation.
