Mohali, Jan 25: Punjab Police on Sunday said it has busted a key financial link of an inter-state and cross-border narco-terror module with the arrest of a crucial conduit involved in terror financing.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the accused has been identified as Satnam Singh, a resident of Punnewal village in Sangrur district.

According to police, Satnam, who worked as a taxi driver with a private company, had travelled to Azerbaijan on a tourist visa in June last year, where he allegedly came into contact with a Pakistan-based drug smuggler.

The arrest follows a detailed investigation into the apprehension of key narco-terror operative Rajbir Singh alias Fauji, who was arrested from Raxaul near the India-Nepal border in Bihar while attempting to flee to Nepal.

Rajbir, who deserted the Indian Army in February 2025, had supplied heroin to Chirag, a courier who was earlier arrested with 107 grams of heroin, a 9 mm pistol, and live cartridges, police said.

In a statement, the DGP said preliminary investigations revealed that Satnam facilitated terror financing by allowing his bank account and UPI credentials to be used for routing proceeds from heroin trafficking, allegedly on the instructions of the Pakistan-based handler.

“The network has been linked to major heroin recoveries, illegal arms trafficking and a grenade attack in Haryana’s Sirsa in November 2025,” Yadav said.

Assistant Inspector General Deepak Pareek of the Special Operations Cell said that during interrogation, Rajbir disclosed that after returning to India in September last year, the Pakistan-based smuggler re-established contact with him and offered commissions for facilitating financial transactions for the drug network.

The drug proceeds were deposited into Satnam’s bank account and subsequently transferred to other members of the network, Pareek said. Rajbir allegedly used the account of Gurjant Singh, a resident of Tarn Taran, to route funds into Satnam’s account. Gurjant has since been arrested by Haryana Police, he added.

Further investigations are underway to identify other members of the network, police said.
