Udupi, Jan 26: A horticulture and flower exhibition based on the theme of environmentalist late Salumarada Thimmakka was inaugurated by minister for women and child development, empowerment of differently-abled and senior citizens, Lakshmi R Hebbalkar, who is also the Udupi district in-charge minister, at the Doddanagudde Flower Auction Centre premises in the city.
After inaugurating the event, the minister extended her best wishes for the three-day-long flower show.
A special artistic replica of Salumarada Thimmakka, created by artists from Mysuru, showcases various stages of her life and her journey up to receiving the Padma Shri award. The artwork has attracted and impressed visitors.



The exhibition also features displays of rare fruits, exhibits brought by farmers, animal-themed art creations, Doraemon models, honey-related displays, and many other attractions that have drawn public attention.
Thousands of attractive flower pots, including locally grown marigolds, petunias, impatiens, dianthus, kalanchoe, and other varieties, have been artistically arranged. More than 50 stalls have been set up at the venue, providing visitors with an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the exhibition over three days.
The event was attended by MLC Channaraj Hattiholi, Coastal Development Board chairman M A Gaffoor, District Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee chairman Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Urban Development Authority chairman Dinakar Heroor, deputy commissioner Saroopa T K, Zilla Panchayat CEO Prateek Bayal, officials from various departments, school students, and several other dignitaries.
