New Delhi, Jan 29: The Congress on Thursday sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remarks at the start of the Budget session, accusing him of delivering his “usual hypocrisy-laden message to the nation” ahead of each parliamentary session.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said Modi avoids convening all-party meetings to take the opposition into confidence on key national issues. “He will suddenly have Bills introduced at the last minute and bulldozed through Parliament without the necessary legislative scrutiny,” Ramesh alleged. He added that the Prime Minister prefers making election-style speeches in both Houses rather than engaging with opposition leaders or addressing their concerns.

“Before the beginning of each session, he will give his usual hypocrisy-laden ‘desh ke naam sandesh’ with Parliament as his backdrop. Today’s performance is part of this series,” Ramesh remarked.
In his address, PM Modi highlighted India’s growing global economic engagement, citing the free trade pact with the European Union as a step towards creating new opportunities for Indian manufacturers. He also emphasized that the government is focused on resolving long-pending problems and ensuring last-mile delivery of welfare schemes.
“Our priority is always human-centric while taking steps for all-round development of the country,” Modi told reporters at the Parliament House complex. “An India full of confidence has emerged as a ray of hope for the world,” he added.
The exchange sets the tone for a contentious Budget session, with the opposition poised to challenge the government on legislative processes and delivery of welfare initiatives.
