Brahmavar, Jan 31: Veteran athlete Joylan Fernandes from Hosala, Barkur, has elevated his reputation in Indian masters athletics by clinching the gold medal in the men's shot put at the inaugural 1st United National Masters Games 2026 in Nashik, Maharashtra.

The prestigious national championship, held from January 28 to 31 under the banner of the Masters Games Association Maharashtra and backed by the All-India Masters Sports Federation (AIMS), Asian Masters Sports Committee, and World Masters Sports Federation, drew elite veteran competitors from every corner of the country.

In the fiercely contested 50+ age category, Fernandes unleashed a measured throw of 11.09 meters, securing the top position on the podium. The official certificate of merit from the organizers underscores his dominant performance and rightful claim to the national title.

This latest triumph builds seamlessly on Fernandes' rising trajectory in the masters circuit. Just months earlier, in October 2025, he stormed the district-level open masters meet in Mumbai with a gold in shot put and silver in hammer throw. By November, he expanded his dominance further, sweeping gold in shot put and discus throw while adding a silver in javelin at the Mumbai Suburban Masters Athletic Association event in Kandivali—demonstrating remarkable versatility across multiple throwing disciplines.

From local district podiums to the national stage, Fernandes' journey reflects unwavering commitment, disciplined training, and a passion for keeping the spirit of athletics alive well beyond prime years. His achievements continue to inspire the masters community and bring pride to Barkur and the coastal Karnataka region.

As masters sports gain momentum across India, Joylan Fernandes stands as a shining example of how dedication and skill can yield national-level success at any age. The Barkur community and athletics fraternity extend heartfelt congratulations on this crowning national achievement.
