Gariaband, Feb 2: Violence erupted between two communities in Dudhkaiyya village of Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district on Sunday evening after three men, recently released on bail, allegedly attacked locals, police said.

Six police personnel were injured in stone-pelting while trying to control the clashes, the authorities added.

The accused, including a man identified as Arif, had been arrested a year ago for vandalising a temple idol. After being released, they allegedly harassed witnesses and intimidated villagers. On Sunday morning, they reportedly attacked four to six youths with rods, triggering the communal tension.

Angry villagers gheraoed the accused’s homes, setting them on fire, while a few vehicles were also torched. Gariaband SP Vedvrat Sirmour said additional forces were deployed, all three accused were re-arrested, and three cases registered. The situation is now under control.
