Washington, Feb 2: US President Donald Trump has accused Democrats of being “soft on crime,” alleging that they prioritise protecting criminals over ensuring the safety of American citizens.
In a post on Truth Social on Monday, Trump claimed that violent offenders were being shielded “at the expense of our great American citizens and patriots.” He asserted that such an approach was “not what America is about, and never will be.”

Earlier, Trump also voiced frustration over the long-standing midterm election trend in which the party out of power typically gains seats in Congress. In this context, he intensified his criticism of Democrat-governed cities in traditionally blue states such as California, Minnesota, New York and Illinois.
The President accused these cities of allowing what he termed “insurrectionist” protesters to run amok and interfere with federal immigration enforcement efforts.
In another Truth Social post on Saturday, Trump said he had instructed Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem that the federal government would not intervene in protests or riots in what he described as “poorly run Democrat Cities” unless local authorities formally requested assistance.
“Under no circumstances are we going to participate … unless, and until, they ask us for help,” Trump wrote, reiterating his administration’s stance on handling unrest in Democrat-led urban centres.
