From jail to assembly: Anant Singh sworn in amid tight security

Patna, Feb 3: Newly elected Mokama MLA Anant Singh, currently incarcerated in Beur Central Jail in connection with a murder case, was sworn in as a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly on Tuesday under stringent security arrangements.

Singh was brought to the Assembly from jail after the Patna Civil Court granted special permission for his oath-taking. Acting on court orders, authorities transported him in an ambulance accompanied by heavy security, with the entire movement closely monitored.

Upon reaching the Assembly, Singh formally took the oath of office and later held a brief meeting with chief minister Nitish Kumar. He also greeted people present on the Assembly premises before being escorted back to Beur Jail following the completion of proceedings.

Earlier in the day, before leaving the jail, Singh spoke briefly to the media, saying his immediate focus was on securing bail. He confirmed that he has already applied for bail and expressed confidence that he would be released soon.

Addressing voters from his Mokama constituency, Singh said that development work in the area is ongoing despite his incarceration. He assured residents that once released, he would personally meet people and work to resolve pending issues.

“All development work in Mokama is continuing. Once I am out, I will meet everyone and complete the remaining work,” he said.

Reacting to his electoral victory, Singh remarked that winning the election was not a challenging task for him.

Officials confirmed that Singh was escorted to and from the Assembly strictly in line with court instructions. The episode has attracted considerable political attention, given Singh’s strong influence in Mokama politics and his prolonged legal battles.

Anant Singh is currently lodged in Beur Jail in connection with the alleged murder of Dularchand Yadav, which reportedly took place during the campaign for the Bihar Assembly Election 2025. Despite being behind bars, he contested the election from Mokama and emerged victorious.
