New Delhi: Lok Sabha adjourned till noon amid Opposition protests

New Delhi, Feb 4: Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 12 noon on Wednesday after Opposition members staged loud protests over various issues, disrupting the Question Hour.

As soon as the House assembled, Opposition MPs attempted to raise issues and shouted slogans, prompting Speaker Om Birla to urge members to allow the Question Hour to continue and maintain decorum.

Only one question and its supplementary queries could be taken up during the brief Question Hour, which lasted about five minutes, before the Speaker adjourned the House till noon as the din continued.

The disruptions come a day after eight Opposition members — seven from the Congress and one from the CPI(M) — were suspended for the remainder of the Budget Session for unruly behaviour.

Since Monday afternoon, the Lok Sabha has witnessed repeated uproar after Rahul Gandhi was reportedly disallowed from quoting an article that referred to an unpublished “memoir” of former Army chief M M Naravane on the 2020 India-China conflict.
