Vijayawada, Feb 5: Tragedy struck the Vijayawada Government General Hospital early Thursday morning when Battula Deepika, a final-year post-graduate student specializing in anesthesia, was discovered dead under unexplained circumstances.

The medical community is in shock after the young resident, who had been on duty until 8 p.m. the previous evening, was found unresponsive on an operating theater table just hours after complaining of abdominal pain.

Preliminary reports suggest that Deepika had requested a junior colleague to administer an injection for her discomfort, yet despite exhaustive efforts by fellow doctors to revive her using CPR, she could not be saved.

In the wake of the incident, Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav personally reached out to the victim’s family to offer support while mandating a high-level investigation led by Police Commissioner Rajasekhar Babu.

Authorities are currently scouring CCTV footage and awaiting post-mortem results to determine the exact cause of death. Simultaneously, the hospital has established an internal inquiry committee to explore all possibilities, including potential workplace harassment.

While the district collector awaits a formal briefing, the medical staff remains under scrutiny as investigators record statements from those who last saw Deepika alive, seeking to understand whether this was a tragic medical mishap or something more sinister.
