New Delhi, Feb 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday urged school students to use Artificial Intelligence wisely to enhance their knowledge while cautioning them against becoming overly dependent on technology. Addressing the ninth edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha, the Prime Minister said AI can expand human capabilities but should not replace independent thinking.

“Artificial intelligence may increase our capabilities, but we should not get dependent on it. It must be used as a tool to enhance strength and wisdom, not merely for entertainment,” he said, adding that earlier generations did not have access to such advanced tools and today’s youngsters must use them judiciously.

Explaining the right way to use AI, Modi said that merely summarising biographies through AI offers limited value, whereas seeking AI recommendations for age-appropriate biographies and reading those books can lead to genuine personal growth.

Describing examinations as a positive experience, the Prime Minister told students to view exams as festivals and celebrate them. He encouraged them to develop their own study patterns after listening carefully to advice from others, stressing that enjoyment in learning comes from following one’s own method.

Responding to a student who said they struggled to match the pace of teaching in school, Modi advised teachers to stay just one step ahead of students. “If teachers move fifty steps ahead, students will give up. Just like a farmer ploughs the field, teachers must plough the minds of students,” he said.

He further suggested that teachers should inform students in advance about upcoming chapters so they can read or research them beforehand. “When actual teaching happens, curiosity will arise, understanding will deepen and focus will improve,” the Prime Minister added.
