New Delhi, Feb 8: India’s top singles player Sumit Nagal will headline the local challenge at the Delhi Open 2026, an ATP Challenger tournament scheduled to be held from February 16 to 22 at the DLTA Complex here. Great Britain’s Jay Clarke will lead a strong international field at the event.

Nagal, the only Indian to secure direct entry into the singles main draw, will be a key attraction for home fans. A regular on the Challenger circuit, Nagal is expected to make the most of familiar conditions in the capital as he looks to put up a strong showing against quality opposition.

Over the years, the Delhi Open has earned a reputation for hosting highly competitive fields, often featuring players on the cusp of breaking into the top tier of men’s tennis.

Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) President Rohit Rajpal highlighted the tournament’s importance for Indian tennis. “The Delhi Open has firmly established itself as one of the most competitive and professionally run Challenger events in the region. It has played a vital role in connecting Indian talent with top international competition, while allowing fans to witness world-class tennis at close quarters,” he said.

The 2026 edition will also see a strong Asian presence, with promising Japanese teenager Rei Sakamoto, his compatriot Rio Noguchi and Kazakhstan’s Beibit Zhukayev featuring in the field.

Rajpal added that the tournament serves as inspiration for young players training at the DLTA and across the country, demonstrating that the pathway to the international stage is achievable.

Adding to domestic interest, talented Indian youngsters Manas Dhamne and Karan Singh will compete in the singles qualifiers on February 15, raising expectations of a spirited home challenge at the Delhi Open.
