Mangaluru, Feb 8: Residents in various elevated areas of the city are facing severe water shortages even before the onset of peak summer. Despite adequate water levels in the Thumbe dam, technical issues and pressure fluctuations have reportedly hindered the supply to high-altitude neighborhoods.
According to reports, several wards under the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) have been struggling with inconsistent water supply for the past few days. While the lower-lying regions receive a steady flow, the water pressure is insufficient to reach houses and overhead tanks located on hilly terrain.

Sources indicate that the issue is primarily due to the old distribution network and occasional power fluctuations at the pumping stations. Residents have observed that despite the authorities’ claims of ensuring 24x7 water supply, the ground reality remains different for those living in the outskirts and elevated zones.
It is gathered that the lack of coordination in valve operations and the ongoing work on the new pipeline project are also contributing factors to the disruption. There are growing demands for the city corporation to deploy tankers in affected areas to mitigate the crisis and ensure that the water stored at the dam reaches all households equitably during the upcoming summer months.
