India adds two more golds, medal tally reaches 39 at Asian Shooting Championships

New Delhi, Feb 11: Indian shooters added two more gold medals on Tuesday, taking the country’s gold tally to 39 at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship being held in New Delhi.

Prachi Gaikwad clinched the gold medal in the junior women’s 50-metre rifle three-position final, scoring 353.3 points. Kazakhstan’s Tomiris Amanova settled for silver with 351.4 points, while India’s Anushka Thokur won the bronze with a score of 341.1 points after 34 shots.

India also struck gold in the junior women’s 50-metre rifle three-position team event, with the trio of Prachi Gaikwad, Anushka Thokur and Hazel combining to post a total score of 1,748 points.

In the senior women’s category, India’s Aakriti Dahiya secured the silver medal in the women’s 50-metre rifle three-position event with a score of 354.2 points. She finished four points behind Kazakhstan’s Sofiya Shulzhenko, who won the gold. India’s Anjum Moudgil claimed the bronze with 340.4 points.

Meanwhile, the Indian team comprising Aakriti Dahiya, Anjum Moudgil and Aashi Chouksey bagged silver in the women’s 50-metre rifle three-position team event with a combined score of 1,756 points. Kazakhstan won the gold with a total of 1,760 points.

With seven days of competition completed, India’s overall medal tally has risen to 66 medals, including 39 gold, 15 silver and 12 bronze, as the hosts continue to comfortably lead the medal table.
