Karkala: Police raid gambling den, arrest eight persons

Karkala, Feb 11: Karkala town police personnel raided a house in Nakre Bailubettu of Kukkundur village where an illegal gambling den was being operated and arrested eight persons.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ummar Farooq (62), Abdul Aziz (40), Satish S Prabhu (49), Abdul Rahiman (49), Sameer (46), Suleiman (45), Irfan (26), and Chethak (38).

Acting on credible information that the accused, along with two others from Mangaluru named Aprith and Nishanth, were playing the 'Andar-Bahar' gambling game at a house named ‘Sadwin’ belonging to one Ashok, a team led by PSI Muralidhar Naik conducted the raid on the first floor of the building.

During the operation, the police seized Rs 22,690 in cash, 52 playing cards, 16 new card decks, 10 plastic chairs, four tables, and nine mobile phones used for the illegal activity.

It is reported that three other accused managed to flee the spot during the raid.

A case has been registered at the Karkala town police station, and further investigations are underway to nab the absconding individuals.
