New Delhi, Feb 12: A self-styled tantrik has been arrested in connection with the deaths of three people whose bodies were found inside a parked car in Peeragarhi, with investigators linking him to at least five similar cases in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

The accused, identified as Kamruddin alias “Baba”, a resident of Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh, allegedly prepared poison-laced ladoos and convinced victims to consume them under the guise of tantric rituals and spiritual healing.

In the Peeragarhi case, the bodies of Randhir (76), Naresh Singh (47) and Laxmi Devi (40) were found inside a car parked on a flyover. Police investigations revealed that Kamruddin had accompanied the trio and allegedly offered them sweets laced with poison.

According to police, the modus operandi in the Peeragarhi incident mirrors earlier cases reported in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, and Dholpur, Rajasthan.

In Firozabad, two deaths were reported after victims allegedly consumed poisoned ladoos given by Kamruddin. Murder cases were registered in both instances. A separate murder case was also filed against him in Dholpur in connection with another death linked to a similar pattern.

With the Peeragarhi case, the total number of suspected murders linked to the accused has risen to six. All cases are currently under investigation.

Delhi Police officials said they are coordinating with their counterparts in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan to ascertain the full extent of the alleged crimes and to determine whether more victims may be connected to the accused.

A complaint filed in Firozabad in May 2025 provides insight into how Kamruddin allegedly targeted victims.

According to the complaint lodged by Ram Lakhan, his relative’s son had been in contact with Kamruddin for some time. The accused allegedly claimed to practise tantra-mantra and exorcism, promising to resolve personal issues through rituals.

On May 8, 2025, Kamruddin reportedly took the young man to his house, assuring him that tantric practices would address his problems. The following day, the young man’s body was found. Police recovered glasses, ladoos and other items associated with ritual activities from the scene and conducted an inquest and post-mortem examination.

The complainant alleged that Kamruddin administered poison under the pretext of performing tantric rituals and instigated the victim to take his own life.

Police are continuing their probe to establish the precise circumstances in each case and to determine whether additional charges may be filed against the accused.
