Bantwal, Feb 16: A fire broke out in dry grass at a private vacant site in Kaikamba on B C Road in Bantwal on Sunday, with the flames spreading towards the nearby Sanchayagiri area.
The vacant plot was reportedly filled with dry grass, and it is suspected that a spark from an unknown source triggered the blaze. The fire soon intensified and extended towards the adjoining locality, creating concern among residents.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel, along with local residents, carried out efforts to douse the flames. As the Bantwal fire engine had responded to another emergency call, a fire tender from Mangaluru was rushed to B C Road to control the situation.

Apart from the burning of dry grass, no major damage or casualties were reported.
B Mooda village administrative officer Yashwita, village assistant Sadashiva Kaikamba, and local leaders visited the spot and inspected the site.
Local residents urged the authorities to take immediate steps to clear the accumulated dry grass in the vacant plot to prevent such incidents in future.
