Massive traffic jam on Mumbai-Pune expressway ahead of road safety week

Navi Mumbai, Feb 20: A day before the launch of Road Safety Week, the ghat section of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway heading towards Pune experienced a massive traffic jam on Thursday, stretching up to 3.5 km between Datta Wadi and Dasturi on the Borghat stretch.

Commuters caught in the snarl voiced their frustration as vehicles crawled along the route. The highway safety patrol team intervened, implementing three temporary blocks at intervals—8–8:30 am, 10–10:30 am, and 12–12:30 pm—to clear the congestion.

A team led by Assistant Police Inspector Swapnil Patil, along with three officers and 15 constables, coordinated traffic management. “Vehicular movement on the Mumbai-bound carriageway was stopped between Datta Wadi and Dasturi to allow Pune-bound motorists to use the stretch. This helped normalize traffic by the afternoon,” Patil said.
