Traffic Penalties to Increase Manifold


New Delhi, Mar 1 (IANS): The cabinet Thursday approved the Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill increasing penalties manifold for traffic violations. Following are the highlights:

* Using mobile phones or iPads while driving: First offence - fine of Rs.500. Second offence - fine between Rs.2,000 and 5,000.

* Drunken driving: Three categories and varying fines:

First category -- 30-60 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood; first offence would attract a fine of Rs.2,000 or six months in jail or both.

Second category -- 60-150 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood; first offence would invite fine of Rs.4,000 or one year jail term or. Second offence would attract fine of Rs.8,000 or three-years jail term or both.

Third category -- over 150 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood; first offence would invite fine of Rs.5,000 or two years in jail or both. The second offence would attract fine of Rs.10,000 or four years in jail or both. It could even lead to cancellation of the driving license.

* Death in road accident: Compensation to be hiked from Rs.25,000 to Rs.1 lakh; compensation of Rs.50,000 in case of serious injury.

The bill would be tabled in the Rajya Sabha during parliament's budget session starting March 12.

    Wow! Great English pal! Nevertheless, wholly agree with your view there. Three idea is great, but this shouldn't become another reason for police to get more corrupt and pester the decent drivers more.

    Its good step to safeguard public from accidents. I think Govt. must focus on improving the quality of public transport like if we can have delux buses then why not delux matadors for daily plying people.This will decongest urban traffic.Over loading should also be a part of big offence.

    yes i like the idea of our goverment,IN amrica there goverment received lots of fine there citizens if the are broke the rules and regulation also increase there goverment money beacuse of the received money. now our india need strike rules and regulation . Many of drinker now they fear drive when the drink the alcohol. Also now india goverment show how much money the collect from fine. when the received money the show all money to whole india when this all money the get this all money use for social work and development.Now many of foreign country recived money from fine and this money use for development. we also use this money for our country development. Now in metro cities many of the boy and girl drink and they ride the bike very fast accident will be happen. Alcohal cost is very high but demand is more thats goverment alos increase the fine of who drink and drive what ever. All truck driver, car driver,two wheller driver they all fear when they drink and drive the car. I like the goverment starat the new traffic rules.We live very strike and follow the rules and regulation. How we decrese the corrupation , whihc police men catch the many drinker who broke the rules and regulation this police man goverment give same incentive means this follow now give some bribe.
