Big B Casino sealed over Rs 14 crore dues

Panaji, Feb 22: The Big B Casino at Resort Rio in Arpora has been sealed by the North Goa collectorate for non-payment of government fees amounting to Rs 14 crore.

Sources said the government had earlier approved the operation of Big B Casino at Resort Rio under a revised notification valid till February 2028. However, the company allegedly failed to deposit Rs 3 crore with the Home Department for the period April 2021 to March 2025 and an additional Rs 11 crore for the period April 2025 to March 2026.

The Home Department issued a show-cause notice to the company on December 12, 2025, directing it to clear the outstanding dues immediately. The casino’s licence had also been suspended pending payment.

Despite the notice, the company reportedly did not clear the outstanding Rs 14 crore and continued operations.

Following detection of the irregularities, Under Secretary (Home) Manthan Naik issued an order on February 17 directing the North Goa Collector to immediately seal the casino.

Acting on these instructions, officials from the Bardez Mamladar’s office, along with a police team, sealed the casino premises on Saturday.
