Mangaluru, Feb 22: The Scouts and Guides of Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru celebrated World Thinking Day with great enthusiasm and fervour on February 19 in the school auditorium.
The programme centred on this year’s theme, “Our Friendship–Friendship beyond Borders”, created awareness that though we come from different places and cultures, we belong to one world united in friendship and service.

The celebration commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest, Dr Rahul Tonse, ADC(S), Mangaluru North, along with other dignitaries, symbolising knowledge, hope and togetherness. The all-faith prayer that followed created a serene atmosphere, praying for peace and mutual respect among different faiths.
A mesmerising fusion welcome dance by the junior guides beautifully blended grace and energy through a vibrant mix of traditional beats and rhythm. Gian and Sherman extended words of warm and joyful welcome, after which the principal presented a flower sapling to the chief guest as a token of love and appreciation.
The significance of the day was then highlighted, reflecting the theme and the core principles of the scout and guide movement. This was followed by a thematic dance on “Friendship”, promoting trust, harmony, and unity beyond boundaries.
It was a proud moment to reflect on the year’s journey as guides Deepika, Saanvi, Prisha, and Navika presented the annual report of the scouts and guides, highlighting the various activities, training sessions, tests, camps, and achievements throughout the year. An energetic Zumba performance with impressive pyramidal formations further expressed unity, teamwork, balance and coordination.
A special highlight of the day was the felicitation of NCC Cadet Sgt Ancel D’Costa, in the presence of his father, Alfred D’Costa for his remarkable achievement and participation in the Republic Day Parade held in New Delhi this year, bringing glory and honour to his alma mater and family. Tr Leena presented a brief account of Ancel’s achievements and his active participation in the RD Camp. The chief guest, Dr Rahul Tonse, along with the principal, vice principal and ANO Teena, honoured him with a shawl, fruit basket, flower bouquet and a cash prize. A flower bouquet was also presented to his father as a gesture of appreciation and pride.
In his address, Dr Rahul Tonse shared insights from his own journey in the movement and encouraged the young Scouts and Guides to actively participate in the organisation to cultivate patriotism and a spirit of service to the nation.
Sr Melissa, in her address, congratulated the scouts, guides and their mentors for organising the programme very creatively. She urged the students to aim higher, serve society selflessly, and draw inspiration from Sergeant Ancel DCosta, who aspires to serve the nation through the Armed Forces.
