Bhopal, Feb 22: At least 15 passengers were injured when a private bus traveling from Pipariya in Narmadapuram to Chhindwara overturned near Renikheda village on Sunday, according to police officials.

The accident occurred around 10 a.m. when the bus, bearing registration number MP-04-PA-2644, lost control and toppled onto the roadside. Authorities suspect overspeeding or a mechanical fault, with preliminary reports indicating the vehicle may have been moving at high speed. Investigators also noted that the steering mechanism might have locked suddenly, contributing to the mishap.

Responding quickly, personnel from Mahuljhir police station, aided by local residents, rescued the injured and transported them to Tamia Hospital for emergency care. Of the injured, 10–11 passengers with serious injuries were later referred to the Community Health Centre in Pipariya, while those with minor injuries received first aid and were discharged. Three individuals, including the bus driver Amar, are reported to be in critical condition; the driver sustained a severe head injury and was referred to the district hospital for specialised treatment.

Police deployed a crane to remove the overturned vehicle and restore traffic along the route. A case has been registered at Mahuljhir police station, and investigators are examining vehicle speed, mechanical condition, road factors, and witness accounts to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Pipariya is a key transit point for tourists traveling to nearby hill stations, including Pachmarhi and Tamia, highlighting the importance of road safety in the region.
