Mathura, Feb 26: A snack vendor at Mathura Junction railway station was allegedly slapped by a Government Railway Police (GRP) constable following a delay in serving tea, in an incident that was caught on CCTV and has since gone viral on social media.

The episode occurred on Wednesday, February 25, when the vendor was reportedly opening his stall for the day and cleaning the kiosk. According to footage circulating online, a GRP personnel arrived at the stall, ordered tea and briefly left the spot.

Upon returning and finding that the tea had not been prepared, the constable allegedly lost his temper. The CCTV visuals show the vendor explaining that he was unable to make the tea immediately as he was still engaged in cleaning work.

As the verbal altercation intensified, several bystanders gathered at the scene. The argument reportedly shifted to the vendor’s use of a floor wiper. The constable and others present accused him of pushing water from the stall onto the platform, allegedly creating a slipping hazard for commuters.

During the heated exchange, the constable was heard using abusive language and threatening to take the vendor to the police station. In the video, the vendor is seen protesting the insults and questioning the threat.

Moments later, the constable allegedly grabbed the vendor by his collar and slapped him twice. The vendor has since stated that he is deeply traumatised by the incident.

The incident comes close on the heels of another controversy in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, where a woman police sub-inspector was seen in a viral video threatening a couple during a traffic altercation.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the Mathura incident.
