Asaduddin Owaisi condemns Khamenei assassination, urges India to act for peace

Hyderabad, Mar 1: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday denounced the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as an immoral and unlawful act, extending condolences to the Shia community for the loss of their spiritual leader.

Speaking to the media, Owaisi condemned the joint strikes by the United States and Israel, calling the attacks “absolutely condemnable,” especially as they occurred during ongoing Iran-US negotiations in Geneva. He specifically criticised US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing them of disregarding human life and religious observances, noting that the strikes took place during the holy month of Ramzan.

Highlighting the human toll, Owaisi said more than 200 people had been killed, including 108 girls at a school targeted in the attacks. He demanded an immediate halt to hostilities, warning that continued violence could destabilise the entire region.

The Hyderabad MP urged the Indian government to intervene, emphasising the safety of Indian nationals in the Gulf, where around 10 million Indians work. He cited reports of injured Indian workers at Oman port and stranded pilgrims performing Umrah, many of whom faced financial difficulties amid cancelled flights.

Owaisi described the strikes as an illegal war, asserting that there was no threat to the attackers and that coercion against Iran would backfire. He predicted that efforts to enforce regime change would fail and drew a parallel between Israel’s actions in the Middle East and Pakistan’s in Afghanistan, calling both “forces of aggression and mischief.”

He also accused Netanyahu of involvement in the killing of 70,000 Palestinians, condemning Israel as a “genocidal regime” that perpetually engages in destabilising activities in the region.
