International Women’s Day celebrated at Paldane Church; new women’s commission committee inaugurated

Mangaluru, Mar 8: International Women’s Day was celebrated and the new committee of the Women’s Commission was inaugurated at St Teresa Church, Paldane, Mangaluru, on Sunday. The programme was held in the church auditorium.

Addressing the gathering, parish priest Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho said that society should treat women with dignity and respect.

Fr Sylvester D’Costa, coordinator of the City Deanery Women’s Commission of the Mangaluru diocese, attended as the chief guest and spoke about the activities of the Women’s Commission. He also invited members to participate in the upcoming diocesan-level Women’s Commission convention.

Another chief guest and resource person, Dr Joylin Diana D’Almeida, gynaecologist at Father Muller Hospital, Kankanady, and professor at Father Muller Medical College, delivered an informative session on women’s health issues. She also responded to various queries and doubts raised by the women participants.

Among those present on the dais were Deacon Rovin Lopez, vice-president Elias Fernandes, secretary Roshan Monteiro, All-Commissions coordinator William Lobo, and Sister Monty, Superior of Raphael Convent, who conveyed their greetings.

Women’s Commission president Sheila D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Secretary Lizzy Fernandes and her team led the prayer. Vice-president Valentine Rodrigues, joint secretary Shanthi Monteiro, and core committee members Juliana Fernandes and Shobha Siqueira were also present.

The programme was compered by treasurer Presilla Fernandes.
