Mangaluru, Mar 9: “The hand that rocks the cradle can rule the nation. If a woman is educated, the entire nation becomes educated. Today women are an inspiration in every field including science, sports, politics, art, and culture. However, inequality, exploitation, and oppression still exist in society. Therefore, women must make use of the opportunities available to achieve their dreams, and a society that respects women must be built,” said the Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of the Diocese of Mangalore.
He was speaking after inaugurating the International Women’s Day celebration organised jointly by Manini State Women’s Association (R), Bengaluru and Samruddhi District Women’s Federation, Mangaluru, held on March 9, at the Town Hall in Mangaluru. More than 1,000 women from various district federations across Karnataka under the Manini State Women’s Association participated in the gathering.




































The programme was presided over by Manjula John, president of the Manini State Women’s Federation. The chief guests included Mangaluru ACP Najma Farooqui, chief accounts officer of the City Corporation Akshatha K, and child development project officer Shwetha.
Deputy legal superintendent of the Legal Services Authority K Gopalakrishna Shetty provided detailed information about free legal aid and government facilities available for women. Bhagyamary, honorary president of the Manini State Women’s Federation, delivered the introductory address. Jayashree, president of Samruddhi District Women’s Federation, Mangaluru, was also present on the dais.
Prof Rita Noronha, Tabassum, and Sabitha Monis were honoured for their significant achievements in the field of women’s empowerment. Fr Richard Pais, Fr Vincent D’Souza, and state coordinator of the Women Empowerment Project, Sr Nancy Lobo, were felicitated for their contributions to the organisation’s growth. K Sanjeeva Gowda was also honoured for his support to the programme.
Members from eight federations presented attractive cultural programs during the event. While Shwetha welcomed the gathering, Supriya delivered the vote of thanks. Vani and Geetha Gaste compered the programme.
